We have addressed two key challenges, one biological and one methodological. First, we have developed new understanding on how proliferation rates, tissue growth and cellular migration rates in the intestinal epithelium are related in health, and how these relations can be used to identify mechanisms of repair and regeneration following injury. Second, we have built a Bayesian framework that provides an optimum approach for systematically modelling the epithelium dynamics.
